The Lounge event to showcase performers, cause Friday night

URBANA — One People will present at 7:30 p.m. Friday its signature event The Lounge: GIFTED, with a focus on giving to others every day, at The Hub, 912 W. Springfield Ave.

The doors will open at 7 p.m. Sarah Addison will emcee the event.

The Lounge is a community event, free and open to the public, that provides a stage for local performers while using the opportunity to raise awareness and support for local nonprofits and causes.

On Friday, One People will partner with Friends of Santa, an organization founded by Tom Cain, a local business owner and real estate agent.

For decades, Friends of Santa has given toys to underserved children in rural Champaign County. This year, Friends of Santa also will provide gifts to an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At The Lounge, One People will accept donations, both toys and money, for Friends of Santa.

One People is a service and arts organization founded in April in Champaign-Urbana. So far, it has raised money for a renovation of a primary school in rural Kenya and the construction of a free health center in Nigeria, and it has helped spread awareness of women advocacy and resource centers in the C-U area.
