'Mixed In' show set for this weekend

CHAMPAIGN — The Common Mind, a group of local visual artists, will present "Mixed In" from Friday through Sunday at the Indi Go Artist's Co-op, with the opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The Common Mind formed to create art and events that promote local talent. Among the founding members are Matt Harsh, a local video artist, and Ryan Michael Fraser, a painter who lives in Chicago.

As a collective, they organized several shows at the Luna Cafe in Champaign and at the Boneyard Arts festival. The shows included live art, dance, music, video and more.

"Mixed In" will be Common Mind's second event at Indi Go, 9 E. University Ave., C. The multimedia showcase will feature displays by more than 15 artists, including oil and acrylic paintings, ceramics, glass jewelry, video and graffiti art.

The event Saturday also will feature a live glassblowing demonstration, a live video display and live painting. The artists range in age and experience, but most are based in Champaign-Urbana and are nonacademic artists.

Saturday's reception also will feature DJs and performers, including DJ Mertz, a regular at Pecha Kucha events as well as at Exile on Main, and Kirkwood West, Jive Davis and DJ Belly.
