Something steely

The Louisiana Music and Culture website OffBeat calls Champaign native/pedal steel player Dave Easley amazing; musicians say he's unique on his instrument. He performs at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Iron Post in Urbana, with local greats Bob Watson on guitar and Michael Powers on percussion.

Something new

Esteban Gast, an award-winning stand-up comic and a University of Illinois grad student in political science, will debut Illini Show Case at 5 p.m. Friday in the Courtyard Cafe of the Illini Union, 1410 W. Green St., U. The free late-night style show will feature UI and community guests, music and sketch comedy by Gast.

Something different

It's always fun to hear music in an unusual setting. So I might check out at 8 tonight The Prairie Ensemble fundraiser "A Well-Orchestrated Evening," featuring coffee, dessert and a 30-minute performance of chamber music. Admission to the annual event at the Indi Go Artist Co-op, 9 E. University, C, is $20.
