UI alum vying for Superbowl airtime

A man with ties to Champaign-Urbana is hoping that this weekend's Superbowl will be his big break in getting nationwide acting exposure.

University of Illinois alumnus and former Parkland College professor Jim Coates is in a commercial that was entered in a contest put on by Doritos.  The advertisement is one of five finalists that may air during the big game.

Coates said the commercial's appeal boils down to good storytelling.

Coates also said he's hoping that Doritos chooses the commercial to air not just on Superbowl Sunday but afterwards as well.  He said that would mean he would get residual money each time the advertisement airs.
