'Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr.' coming to Orpheum museum

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company will present "Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr.!" this weekend at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum, 346 N. Neil St.

The theater company's first production in partnership with the museum will feature middle school students who participated in CUTC's Broadway Beginners program. Performances will be in the theater portion of the museum at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"In the future, we hope to always have a partnership with the museum," said Dawn McDaniel, director of the show.

The Broadway Beginners program for children in fifth through eighth grades started meeting Jan. 9 at the CUTC headquarters in Urbana.

Nineteen students participated as Center Stagers. Five were Back Stagers, learning aspects of backstage craft and helping to build the set.

The show is performed to a CD of the music. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. The show runs for an hour. McDaniel said the show targets ages 2 and up.
