Stage show, square dance to feature string band

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival will present a stage show and square dance featuring the North Carolina-based Freight Hoppers String Band from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon St.

Caller Martha Tyner will lead the dance. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds will benefit the artists and the C-U Folk and Roots Festival.

The Freight Hoppers play hard-driving old-time music inspired by their love of string band music of the 1920s and '30s. The band has entertained at festivals and music halls nationwide as well as overseas.

The stage show starts at 7 p.m. with the dance following at 8. No dance experience is necessary, and all dances are taught.
