Here are critic Richard J. Leskosky's Academy Award picks for this year, based on the nearly unanimous results of the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Directors Guild of America, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards presentations.

Best actor: Matthew McConaughey ("Dallas Buyers Club")

Best actress: Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine")

Best supporting actor: Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club")

Best supporting actress: Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave")

Best director: Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity")

Best picture: "12 Years a Slave"

Note: McConaughey and Leto were not even nominated for the BAFTA awards, but their film had not opened in Britain during that nomination period.
