Little Theatre brings musical comedy to stage

SULLIVAN — The Little Theatre On The Square will present the musical comedy "Smoke on the Mountain" from Friday through March 16.

The play tells the tale of a traditional church revival in 1938 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in North Carolina.

It has been one of the most requested productions at the Little Theatre. With hymns such as "I'll Fly Away" and "Smoke on the Mountain," the comedy transports many audience members back to their childhoods as they hear hymns they grew up singing in church.

The synopsis: When the Rev. Mervin Oglethorpe invites the Sanders Family Singers to his church for a good old-fashioned Saturday night sing, he gets more than he bargains for when Burl, Vera, Stanley, June, Dennis and Denise Sanders bring their unique mix of traditional hymns and hilarious family anecdotes to the congregation.

Tickets are $37.50 for adults and $35.40 for senior citizens and children. To order tickets, call 728-7375 or visit thelittletheatre.org.
