Look Ahead: Top picks from Melissa Merli for the week to come

A howling good time

If you missed Deke Weaver's "Wolf" last fall at Allerton Park, check out his solo show, with video documentation of his Allerton performances, at 6 or 8 p.m. Monday at the Art Theater Co-op. He's a great performer, and you will learn a lot about an endangered species. For more on the event, check out the article on G-3.

Kronos marking 40 years

The venerable Kronos Quartet returns to Krannert Center for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday that will include a new Philip Glass piece co-commissioned by Krannert to help celebrate the adventuresome foursome's 40th anniversary. I've never been disappointed by Kronos, who are known for their eclectic repertoire. Call 333-6280 for tickets.

Calling all extras

Want to be an extra in a movie? Dorothy Martirano's Almost A will perform gypsy jazz at the Independent Media Center, Urbana, Saturday evening as part of a scene in the independent film "The Garden of Chloe" by Johnny Robinson. The shoot begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by an hourlong performance at 8. Audience members become extras!
