Individual tickets on sale today for Ebertfest

CHAMPAIGN — Tickets to individual movie screenings at Roger Ebert's 16th Film Festival go on sale at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday, April 1) at the Virginia Theatre.

Cost is $14 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens. Generally, movies with big-name guests sell out quickly.

This year's festival, set for April 23-27, includes appearances by A-list directors Oliver Stone ("Born on the Fourth of July," 9 p.m., April 26) and Spike Lee ("Do the Right Thing," 8:30 p.m., April 25). Both movies were released in 1989.

Also coming this year: comedian-actor Patton Oswalt, with "Young Adult" (9 p.m., April 24). On the eve of the festival, Oswalt will also host a free screening of 1974's "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three," set for 7 p.m. on April 23 at Foellinger Auditorium on the University of Illinois Quad.

Another big draw likely will be Brie Larson, a 24-year-old actress who will appear here with the movie "Short Term 12" (4 p.m., April 24).

Festival passes were sold out Monday but the Virginia Theatre maintains a waiting list. In the event any $145 passes become available, those who've been on the list the longest will be contacted by phone or e-mail and given contact information for people unable to use passes they purchased.

Re-sales will be handled by the sellers and the buyers. Call 217-356-9063 to be placed on the list.

If a movie does sell out, people who want to see it are advised to go to the Virginia 30 minutes before screening time and wait in the rush-ticket line. Shortly before the film begins, empty seats will be sold on a first-come first-served basis.
