Awards announced for 'Eric Show'[

CHAMPAIGN — Monticello High School student Jesse Galaway won the best-of-show award in the fifth annual "Eric Show" for an ink drawing titled "Destitute."

Students from 14 area high schools competed in the juried art show endowed by Dale and Peg Steffensen of Urbana in memory of Dale's son, Eric, an aspiring artist who was killed by a drunken driver in 1970.

Other awards:

— First place: Niallan O'Brien, Champaign Central High School, for "Transient Horizon," a colored pencil drawing.

— Second place: Michael Kilby, Monticello High School, for "Self-portrait," a linoleum print.

— Third place: Regan Kelley, the High School of St. Thomas More, "War Time Heroes," mixed media,

Honorable mentions went to Rachel Chung, Centennial High School; Allison Kelley, Rantoul Township High School; Anthony Bonadies, the High School of St. Thomas More; Kirsten Campbell, St. Joseph-Ogden High School; Cole Cary, Monticello High School; and Natalie Akins, Champaign Central High School.

The Eric Show was on display through March 28 at the Illini Union Art Gallery.
