Conservatory plans Saturday Playathon

URBANA — Students and faculty from the Conservatory of Central Illinois will perform during its 24th annual Playathon from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Square Village, Urbana.

The money raised will go toward financial aid for students, community outreach and programs. Since 1990, the Playathons have raised a total of more than $125,000.

The participants seek sponsors for each minute they play during the Playathon. Individuals or businesses that want to sponsor a performance may call the Conservatory in downtown Champaign at 356-9812.

The Playathon will feature winning groups from the annual Faucett Memorial Chamber Ensemble Festival; solo and ensemble performances; and the East Central Illinois Youth Orchestra at 1 p.m. The performers will range in age from preschool through adult.

Admission to the Playathon is free. The Conservatory is a nonprofit community music school and a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
