Urbana Pops violist plays today

URBANA — Urbana Pops Orchestra's principal violist Lydia Tang will be the featured performer at the ensemble's fourth of five free recitals at 2 p.m. today in the auditorium on the lower level of the Urbana Free Library, 210 W. Green St.

Tang has a master's degree in viola performance from the University of Illinois and is pursuing a doctoral of musical arts degree in viola performance as a student of Professor Rudolf Haken.

Before coming here, she studied at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Central Washington University, and the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland.

In addition to being the principal violist for Urbana Pops Orchestra and the Danville Symphony, Tang performs with Sinfonia da Camera, Illinois Symphony, Decatur Symphony, and the Peoria Symphony.

She teaches violin and viola to students of all ages and abilities in Urbana and Monticello. When she is not playing music, she works at the American Library Association Archives. For more about Tang, visit http://www.lydiaswada.wordpress.com.
