King chosen as opening act for Ford County country show

MELVIN — John King will be the opening act for Parmalee at the country music show at this summer's Ford County Fair, organizers announced Monday.

King will join headliner Parmalee — a semifinalist for 2014 New Artist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music Awards — at the concert, scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 24 at the fairgrounds in Melvin.

King, a native of Georgia's Habersham County, has opened for award-winning artists before and has played more than 150 tour dates per year, according to his website.

King's musical tastes were formed early on by Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and The Black Crowes. He later fell in love with Garth Brooks.

"Our early bands were rock bands, but my voice was country," King said on his website. "I grew up country, I talked country, and I started to write about country things."
