URBANA — The Asian American Cultural Center and Japan House will host AsiaFest 2014 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The event will combine the Cultural Center's annual Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration and Japan House's long-standing annual celebration of the traditional Japanese holiday of Children's Day.
The Gah Rahk Mah Dahng will perform South Korean percussion, and the Chinese American Association in Central Illinois, the Champaign Urbana Chinese Folkdance Club and Ghungroo Dance Company will perform dances.
Many interactive cultural activities for the family will be provided as well. AsiaFest is at Japan House, 2000 S. Lincoln Ave., U. Admission is free. For more information, go to oiir.illinois.edu/aacc.
Also this weekend, The Robert E. Brown Center for World Music will present from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday its end-of-semester Balinese Gamelan Concert in the Music Building Auditorium, 1114 W. Nevada St., U. The concert will feature musicians of the University of Illinois Gamelan Class, the Urbana-Champaign Community Gamelan and a guest artist from Bali, as well as Gamelan Genta Kasturi from Kansas City, Mo. All will be directed by I Ketut Gede Asnawa.
The musicians will perform traditional works, along with Balinese dance directed by Putu Oka Mardiani Asnawa. The concert is free and open to the public. More information is available at cwm.illinois.edu/.
