Weekend update: Start your engines!

Gearheads, today is your day. Three-hundred or more classic and late-model custom cars, stock cars, trucks and other vehicles will be on display at the 15th Parkland Motorsports Car Show at the M parking lots of Parkland College in Champaign. The event is free to the public. Here's more:

— Community residents are invited to display their own vehicles at the show. The registration for that — between 10:30 a.m. and noon — is $15 today. The judging of cars begins at noon. The student choice awards will be announced at 3 p.m. and the participant vote awards at 4.

— The show includes food, music and Champaign County Sports Car Club autocross events — action-packed races done in parking lots, said Jon Ross, head of automotive tech at Parkland. Also open today: the Parkhill Applied Technology Center, home of Parkland's automotive, collision repair and industrial tech programs.

— There's a Swap Meet from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the W2 parking lot. Only vendors who pre-registered may sell things there. The Parkland Motorsports Club sponsors the annual Parkland Motorsports Car Show. The registration fees benefit club activities. For info call 217-351-2209 or visit parkland.edu/carshow.
