Crystal Lake Park to host Roots Walk

URBANA — The Urbana Park District will present its first Roots Walk in Crystal Lake Park on Friday.

Similar to the Jazz Walk each fall in Meadowbrook Park, the Roots Walk will have people strolling by acoustic musicians in various settings, playing a variety of roots music.

Scheduled to perform are The Flower Jax, Justin Rondon, Sam Payne and Friends, the Don't Ask klezmer band, blues guitarist John Elder, and Monster Buttermilk, which performs Irish music. And Linda Dust will tell folk tales.

The Roots Walk will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The free event will be centered around the North Woods Pavilion. Parking will be available at the Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center on the north side of the park.

"We hope this event will become just as popular as our Jazz Walk has become," park district community program manager Janet Soesbe said. "We know there is a huge fan base for this type of music and lots of talented local musicians. We invite the public to enjoy the scenery and listen to the wide variety of musical styles. And if you don't know much about this type of music, these folks can introduce you," she added.

The event rain date is May 17. Call 367-9575 for postponement information or visit urbanaparks.org.
