Machala returning to play at Iron Post
URBANA — Former Urbana-based musician Pamela Machala will return to perform at 8:30 p.m. May 28 at The Iron Post, 120 S. Race St., U.
Machala, a singer-songwriter and pianist, has been living in Minneapolis the past couple of years. The Post gig is part of a mini-tour.
Two years ago, Machala released her debut album, "Golden Delicious," recorded at Mark Rubel's Pogo Studio in Champaign. She now performs regularly in Minneapolis-St. Paul with her trio — Chad Mathis on bass and Lamont Sandifer on percussion. She plans to release a new album in October.
Machala has described her original music as piano-pop influenced by her love of jazz, as well as singer-songwriters such as Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles and Regina Spektor. She covers them as well as other artists like Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Fiona Apple and Norah Jones.
She studied philosophy and music at Oberlin and later received a master's degree in piano performance at Eastern Illinois University, where her mother, Susan Teicher, teaches classical piano. For more go to pamelamachala.com.
