'Dido and Aeneas'

Even if you don't like Baroque music, you might want to check out the BACH ensemble and choreographer Philip Johnston's production at 7:30 tonight of Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" at the Wesley Foundation, Urbana. It's only 55 minutes long. I've heard great things about Alexandra Nowakowski, who's Dido.

Pedigreed piano player

If you're a certain age, you know the piano duo Ferrante & Teicher, who performed on TV their arrangements of classical pieces. Teicher's granddaughter, Pamela Machala, who grew up in Urbana, plays piano and writes and sings her own songs, as well as covers. She'll be at The Iron Post at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A festival with fizz

Last year, I drove through Homer during its first Homer Soda Fest. The small town east of Urbana was packed with cars. Well, the second annual Homer Soda Fest takes place from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday; it celebrates 250 different sodas for 25 cents a bottle, plus live music, barbecue and a car show.
