Tolono OKs bars' outdoor events during Fun Day

TOLONO — Two bars have been given approval to have special outdoor events during the Tolono Fun Day festival.

The village board on Tuesday approved a request from Lu & Denny's owner Eddie Gregg to be able to serve alcohol outdoors from noon to 1 a.m. June 27-28. A band on June 27 will be restricted to playing between 6 p.m. and midnight. A fence at least 4 feet tall will be required to be placed around the area, and it must be staffed by at least one security person.

Trustee Greg Kingston suggested waiving the $50 special permit fee "in the spirit of trying to get people to come here and to come back," which the board approved.

At the village board's last meeting, Last Chance Saloon owner Bryan Graham requested to be able to serve alcohol outdoors the same weekend. Graham said he had hired security personnel to ensure that no one drinks outside of the designated area.

Trustees approved the request, pending the business paying sales/use tax and E911 surcharge returns that it owes to the State of Illinois Liquor Control Commission, according to a citation the bar received April 29.

The village board waived the special permit fee for the Last Chance Saloon as well.
