Plenty to do this week

Corvette shows, county fairs and downtown festivals make for a busy enough week. But wait — there's more. Staff writer Tim Mitchell recommends ...

New to DVD this week: "A Winter's Tale," a supernatural story about a burglar who learns he has the gift of reincarnation, starring Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Will Smith. Also opening: "Blood Ties," a crime drama featuring Clive Owen, Mila Kunis and Billy Crudup.

The annual Twin City Little League tournament comes to a close with the third-place game at 6 p.m. and the championship at 8 at Champaign's Zahnd Park. This much we know: There will be a new champion crowned, as 2013 runner-up Wampler is the only semifinalist back from the 2013 final four.

If you like fast horses, bull riding, cowboys and cowgirls, the 60th annual Piatt County Trail Blazers Rodeo is for you. It opens with a 7:30 p.m. Thursday performance at the clubgrounds, one mile north of I-72 exit 166 in rural Monticello. More shows are on tap Friday and Saturday nights.

The two-day Tolono Fun Days Festival kicks off with a Friday night 5K and continues throughout a jam-packed Saturday. Among the Day 2 highlights: an 11 a.m. parade, featuring an array of fire trucks from the region, and, come dusk, one of the area's larger rural fireworks displays.

The University of Illinois Wildlife Medical Clinic will bring live birds to the Champaign Public Library to help teach school-age children about wildlife, conservation and the ecosystem. The "Feathered Friends" event runs from 3 to 3:45 p.m. in the Robeson Pavilion, Rooms A-B.
