Afternoon gig at winery

I respect Joe Taylor, the subject for the Studio Visit today. When he says the band Rebecca Rego & the Trainmen are "really good," I believe him.

The band plays at 3 p.m. today at Joe and Dawn Taylor's Sleepy Creek Vineyards south of Oakwood. The event is free.

The winery there no longer has its Hayloft (art) Gallery but continues to put on great live music and comedy shows.

Duke of Uke reunion Friday

Most of the members of the fun band Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra have moved out of town. But they will reunite for a show from 9 to 11:30 p.m. Friday at Pizza M, 208 W. Main St., U.

Two other bands will perform: Pageant, which plays old-school country, '50s girl-pop and piano indie-pop; and Jonathan Timm, country. Cover: $7.

The show happens after a free screening across the street of "Breaking Away."

This week at the Post

I know I write too much about The Iron Post. But IMHO it's where the best musicians play.

This week: Old Style Sextet, younger guys who get good reviews wherever they play, 7 p.m. Monday; Donnie Heitler, Larry Gray & Joel Spencer, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday; Cownterculture, 8 p.m. Tuesday; SSG Trio (Spencer, Chip Stevens, Gray), 5:30 p.m. Wednesday; Sara Sasaki and friends, 5-8 p.m. Friday. Sara's moving to Austin.
