Allerton concert a bolt of blues

The University of Illinois Credit Union Concert Series at Allerton Park offers Allerton's Blues and Roots with one band and two concert styles.

The concert series describes it as two concerts for the price of one, each concert similar but with enough differences that you will walk away feeling like you were educated on the roots and where blues came from.

David Adcock and the Painkillers play from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at 515 Old Timber Road, Monticello.

The Painkillers Blues Band has been part of the Champaign-Urbana music scene since 2002.

The band plays a variety of blues genres including traditional, southern, and R&B but stays centered on the Chicago Blues traditions, paying homage to Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Carey Bell and Paul Butterfield.

They also move from straight ahead bluesy jams to lighter shuffles, from soft ballads to rowdy swamp boogies with two guitars, bass, drums, harmonica, and both male and female vocals.

Cody and the Gateway Drugs play from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Champaign-based band features Rowdy Norton, Jenny Forshey-Carpenter, Jeff Carpenter and Cody Sokolski. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with snacks available.

The suggested entry donation is $5 a person; $10 a family.
