C-U Days 'a big event' next weekend

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign-Urbana Days, also called C-U Days, will take place Friday evening and most of Saturday at Douglass Park.

The event for the neighborhood attracts 2,000 folks, many of them returning from out of town.

"A lot of people in the area make it a big event and turn it into a family reunion," said Chelsea Norton, marketing manager for the Champaign Park District, which has hosted the event for 30 some years.

C-U Days runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and features a variety of events for families including entertainment, food, inflatables and Touch-a-Truck.

There also will be sports competitions including an All-Star Basketball Tournament, a three-point shootout, a softball tournament and live wrestling provided by Supreme Productions 01 USA Wrestlers.

There also will be free, on-site school and sports physicals available to children as well.

Rough schedule of events:


6-9 p.m. — Inflatables and other kids' activities

6 p.m. — Kickball game

7 p.m. — Gynmastics demonstration

7:30-8 p.m. — Three-point shootout preliminaries

8 p.m. — Dodgeball game


11 a.m.-8 p.m. — Basketball and softball tournaments, food, information and merchandise vendors, and children's activities.

11 a.m.-2 p.m. —Senior luncheon and bingo

11 a.m.-3 p.m. — Entertainment by Michael Lane Media

Noon-6 p.m. — Rolling video games

3-5 p.m. — Zero 1 Wrestlers

5-8 p.m. — Michael Lane Media entertainment
