Did David "D.J." Wang play piano again at Carnegie Hall?

Yes, for the third time, on May 29 as a first-place winner in the age category of five to 10 years in the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, open to students and adults worldwide. Last year he won a second place in the same competition.

He played Chopin's Waltz in D-flat major, Op. 64, No. 1 in May and will perform the piece yet again at Carnegie Hall on June 24 as a gold-medal winner in the Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented International Young Gifted Musicians Festival "Passion of Music 2017."

The piano prodigy, the 8-year-old son of Connie Shih and Bryan Wang of Champaign, just finished second grade at Countryside School and will be home-schooled from now on. He studies piano with Robin Scott, who told me last year that he "picks up everything very quickly and once he learns it he never forgets it. The speed at which he learns everything is incredibly fast."

Is Sasha Steinberg competing on "RuPaul's Drag Race"?

Yes, he's among the four finalists, from among the 14 contestants who started out in Season 9. The winner will be announced on the June 23 show airing on TV's VH1. Steinberg, whose drag name is Sasha Velour, lives in the Brooklyn borough of New York, and won Drag Queen of the Year and Best Visual Artist at the fifth annual Brooklyn Nightlife Awards this year. Steinberg's "drag family," House of Velour, won Event Producer of the Year.

Is the Fiesta Cafe having live music now?

Yes, for the first time. Owner Ron Haddix said the Mexican restaurant at 216 S. First St., C, has live jazz music from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturdays. So far, four bands have performed inside and two performed on the patio.

"We're slowly building it up," Haddix said. "At first, it was people who were here to eat and just stayed and now we're getting people to come in and hear the bands. We've never had live entertainment here before."

He said people have expressed enough interest that he might continue the live music through the school year.
