Danville Symphony Orchestra sets Christmas concert Saturday

The Danville Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jeremy Swerling will present "Home for Christmas" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium of Danville High School.

It will feature the vocal stylings of Chicago cabaret duo Menzie & Michael, along with the award-winning DHS Delegation show choir.

Holiday favorites performed will include "What Child Is This"; "Baby, It's Cold Outside; "White Christmas"; and many more.

Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael take musical twists on jazz favorites, standards, contemporary pop, Broadway show tunes and film gems. Hailed by Cabaret Scenes Magazine as one of the "Top Ten Cabaret Acts," they have appeared on some of the country's most prestigious stages, including New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

The Delegation show choir will join both the symphony and cabaret guest artists.

Founded in 2000, Delegation is a mixed ensemble of 49 young men and women from Danville High School under the direction of Jeffrey Thomas.

Tickets are $5 to $35.

A prime rib buffet dinner at the Danville Country Club before the concert is open to the public with cocktails at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. The dinner is $28; RSVP at 442-5213.

The symphony is also selling red poinsettias, which will decorate the concert stage. All proceeds benefit the orchestra.

The performance has been underwritten by the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation as part of a gift recognized to support all future December DSO performances.
