Notes-Worthy: Eli Knoke

C.U. Bands and Fans' Terry Brown chats with ELI KNOKE, who plays guitar and sings backup vocals for After Curfew, a rock band based in Champaign that also includes Emma Lacefield (vocals), Jonathan Carley (bass/vocals) and Logan Allen (drums/vocals).

How did the band get its start and name?

Well, when Tom Grassman did his first annual Led Zeppelin night, he wanted a band with all First Gig Rock 'n' Roll Camp people. So I got them together. We had a different name and a different drummer at the time, but then it had eventually evolved into After Curfew when we brought Logan on board.

The name came from us just throwing out names that have to do with us being kids and like a night of rock 'n' roll. Someone threw out After Curfew, and it stuck.

You attended First Gig Rock N' Roll Camp for kids. Tell us about that experience.

I first went to FG when I was about 10-11 years old. I had played a lot of rock in my bedroom. My parents saw an article for this and signed me up as a birthday gift. I loved the camp so much and it took my little rocking diva dreams into a reality.

Then through connections of the camp, I have been asked to help with camp and asked to do other gigs over the years. So for any kids wanting to get roped in to the C-U music scene, this is where you need to go!

Being a young musician, how do you feel about the support in the C-U community?

The support and kindness throughout the C-U music scene is overwhelming. Everyone is supportive of each other and willing to collaborate.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I'd love to collaborate with some of the people who put this town on the map, REO Speedwagon. I think they'd be great to play with.

What is your vision for your own growth and where would you like to see your music take you?

I really hope we can get to that point of recognition where we can record records and make a statement around the States but still have that great connection to where we began.
