Photo exhibit opens in 'art-flex space' at Champaign's Lincoln Building

CHAMPAIGN — A new exhibition called "Echoes" has opened in the "art-flex space" at the Lincoln Building, 44 E. Main St., C.

It features 13 digital photographs by Melissa Mitchell, each paired with a corresponding work of art that replicates or is inspired by her images. The 13 invited responding artists have been working together collaboratively for the past year, mostly via social media across 7,000 miles.

"Echoing" artists are Beth Chasco, Deybra Fair, Alison Fox, Jan Kappes, Barry Land, Pamela Neswald, Cindy Sampson, Lynn Smith, Sara Spanjers, Rachel Suntop, Jan Vallance, Jan VonBokel and Jan Yamamoto.

Their interpretations of Mitchell's photographs include work in a variety of mediums — from drawings and paintings to mixed media, stained glass and fiber art.

The show is on Fridays and Saturdays through April 27. Friday hours are noon to 6 p.m.; Saturdays are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by a closing reception.
