Chorale sets concert with Sycamore Brass, scholarship winners for Saturday

CHAMPAIGN — The Chorale, the Sycamore Brass Quintet and winners of this year's Young Artist Scholarship competition will hold a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S. Prospect Ave., C.

Admission is $15 and goes toward scholarships that will be given to outstanding area high school seniors who plan to pursue music studies at the university level.

"Our applicants this year were amazing, and a pleasure to listen to during their audition for this scholarship," said Chorale Founding Director Julie Beyler. "These young people already have an incredible array of musical achievements behind them, and each looks forward to developing further as a musician who will touch and inspire future audiences."

Winners include Sarah Perdekamp, a senior at University Laboratory High School in Urbana; Jessica Dolan, a senior at Tri-Valley High School in Downs; and Nathaniel Waterson, a senior at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School, Beyler said.

The theme for this year's concert is "Homeward Bound." The Chorale will perform an American Trilogy arranged by Shawn Kirchner. Kirchner did his graduate work at the University of Illinois, Beyler said.

Soloists will include Tim McPheron and Regie Ford.

The Sycamore Brass Quintet will join The Chorale again to present a variety of pieces, including "Star of County Derry," "Simple Gifts," "Satin Doll," "You Made Me Love You," "One Hand, One Heart," "My Romance" and "That's A Plenty."

Founded in 2012, the quintet performs in venues as varied as symphonies and local jazz, classical groups and churches.

The Chorale is a volunteer community chorus. For more information, contact Julie Beyler at ajbeyler@juno.com or call 217-586-2079.
