Chargers surprised with start in girls tennis

CHAMPAIGN — Teri Scaggs boasts just three seniors, with Justice Hardin playing at the highest level in No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.

That doesn't mean the Chargers are struggling, though. Their youth is leading to an influx of success as Centennial is a perfect 7-0 in dual matches this season.

Carr nets three goals but Bulldogs tie rival Green Wave

MAHOMET — An Apollo Conference boys' soccer match between Mahomet-Seymour and Mattoon on Tuesday ultimately became a battle between Austin Carr and the Green Wave's set pieces.

In the end, nobody came out ahead.

Despite a hat trick from the Bulldogs senior and a trio of successful corner kicks from Mattoon junior Shane Ghere, the rivals drew to a 3-3 tie at Middletown Field.

Monticello is on the rise once again in the latest Associated Press prep football polls, which were released Tuesday afternoon.

Ahead of the high school season's fourth week, a quartet of area teams remain ranked while three more are receiving votes.

Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 2, Sullivan 0. Taylor Powell posted a well-rounded effort of seven kills, three aces and two digs as the Knights (6-5) turned away the Redskins (0-8) by a 25-12, 25-14 score in non-league play. Makenzie Brown added three kills, two aces, a dig and a block for ALAH.

Central's Milton commits to Illinois baseball

CHAMPAIGN — Connor Milton is officially a trendsetter.

The Champaign Central junior on Monday night verbally committed to Dan Hartleb’s University of Illinois baseball program through a tweet. The decision came two days after the orange and blue offered Milton during an official visit.
