Wittinger, fellow seniors expect emotional send-off

CHAMPAIGN — Late-night movies and impromptu dance-offs.

The videos still exist from these freshman year get-togethers when Jaelyne Kirkpatrick, Cierra Rice and Alex Wittinger lived together at Illini Tower.

Even now, four years later, the three of them will watch those videos from time to time, recalling the fun they had.

Badgers flip the script against Illinois women in rematch

MADISON, Wis. — A rematch against Wisconsin went nothing like the first game for the Illinois women's basketball team.

Rice continues to show progress for Illini as junior

CHAMPAIGN — Cierra Rice grew up a Michigan State fan.

Before her move to the Detroit area, Rice was born in East Lansing, Mich., and since both of her parents, Marvin and Valeria, were alumni of Michigan State, it only made sense that Rice would cheer on the Spartans as a youngster.

CHAMPAIGN — Alex Wittinger admitted before Wednesday’s practice at Ubben Basketball Complex that she’s keeping track of her progress in reaching Karisma Penn’s career blocks record at Illinois. 

Even if she wasn’t, her father, Kevin, has offered a few friendly reminders from time to time.

CHAMPAIGN — Alex Wittinger took an elbow to the nose in the first quarter while battling for a rebound.

The evidence was the cotton balls that were in her nostrils for the final three minutes of the opening quarter.

The losing streak is over.

After dropping nine consecutive games since a 66-62 victory at Minnesota on Jan. 6, Illinois (10-14, 2-11 Big Ten) has returned to the win column, beating Wisconsin after plenty of close calls in recent weeks.
