Man gets probation for 3 pounds of pot found in traffic stop on I-57

URBANA — A local man who admitted having 3 pounds of cannabis intended for sale in a car he was in last summer has been sentenced to 30 months of probation.

Ellis Woodland, who listed addresses in the 800 block of North Division Street, Urbana, and the 1600 block of Cruising Lane, Champaign, pleaded guilty before Judge Heidi Ladd Tuesday to possession with intent to deliver cannabis.

Rantoul man found in van with 13-year-old girl gets probation for sex abuse

URBANA — A Rantoul man who pleaded guilty to inappropriately touching a teen after being found with her in the back seat of a van has been provisionally sentenced to four years of probation.

Ronnell Throw, 21, who listed an address in the 400 block of Marco Drive, pleaded guilty Tuesday before Judge Roger Webber to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

URBANA — Four people who lived on the same street in northwest Champaign almost three years ago recalled hearing several gunshots on a Wednesday afternoon in April that frightened them.

Three saw a man wearing camouflage clothing with a gun; the fourth wasn't sure who was firing.

URBANA — Champaign County Crime Stoppers needs help finding the people responsible for a shooting at an Urbana gas station earlier this month that left one man wounded.

About 11:51 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, police were sent to the Casey's General Store, 2100 E. University Ave., for shots fired.

They found a man with a gunshot wound to the arm and bullet casings.

URBANA — A Champaign man was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges related to the death of his infant son last month.

Jaytwon Mobley, 20, was charged with aggravated battery to a child, involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment for allegedly causing injuries to Kendall Mobley-Spicer on Jan. 18 that led to his death two days later.

URBANA — A Champaign man convicted of trying to pay a teenage girl to have sex with him faces a maximum of seven years in prison.

A Champaign County jury on Wednesday convicted Jacinto Chavez, 43, of the 1300 block of Fairfax Drive of indecent solicitation of a child and obstructing identification for giving police a false name as they investigated the girl's allegations.

Two hospitalized after crash at southwestern Champaign County intersection

SEYMOUR — Two men were taken to area hospitals for injuries they received in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning in southwestern Champaign County.

Champaign County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Sherrick said the crash between a pickup truck and a car happened at 9:30 a.m. at County Road 200 E and Monticello Road (1000 N). The intersection is about midway between Seymour and Ivesdale.
