Champaign man accused of having meth for sale in June

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly had methamphetamine that he intended to sell in June is due back in court Jan. 8.

Joshua Auteberry, 33, of the 2100 block of Southwood Drive was picked up Monday on a warrant that had been issued about a month ago, when he was charged with delivery of methamphetamine and possession of a look-alike substance.

Urbana man faces weapons, domestic-battery charges in argument

URBANA — An Urbana man who allegedly struck a woman in the head and threatened her with a gun has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal.

Ben Anderson, 33, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Berkley Avenue, was also charged Tuesday with unlawful use of weapons by a felon and domestic battery.

Parkland student accused of stealing, pawning neighbor's laptop

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly stole a computer from a neighbor has been charged with residential burglary.

Leo Bannon, 21, who listed an address in the 2000 block of West Bradley Avenue, is due back in court for a probable-cause hearing Nov. 27. If convicted of the charge, he faces four to 15 years in prison.

C-U Elks' free-throw contest set for Dec. 15 in Urbana

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Elks will hold its annual hoop shot free-throw contest on Dec. 15.

Boys and girls ages 8 to 13 may compete in the free event, which will be held at the gymnasium at Brookens Administrative Center in Urbana.

Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. and shooting begins promptly at 2.

Champaign man charged with possessing stolen vehicle

URBANA — A Champaign man who was panhandling outside a convenience store in Campustown was charged Thursday with possessing a stolen vehicle.

A Champaign police report said about 11 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Circle K, 59 E. Green St., C, to talk to a man panhandling for gas money.

Coroner: Man found in pool of blood in Campustown died of natural causes

URBANA — An Urbana man found in a pool of blood in Campustown early Thursday apparently died of natural causes.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said an autopsy done Friday on Robert W. Chambers, 28, of Urbana showed that he did not die as a result of a cut to his leg.
