UPDATE: Champaign motorcyclist dies after crash on Anthony Drive

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man died early Friday from injuries he sustained when his motorcycle ran into a car in northwest Champaign.

Champaign police Lt. Bruce Ramseyer said the accident happened at 7:07 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of West Anthony Drive.

Pesotum man accused of inappropriate sexual contact with teen

URBANA — A Pesotum man accused of inappropriate sexual contact with a teen is due back in court Oct. 23.

Myles Sorensen, 27, was arraigned Thursday on a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, alleging he engaged in improper conduct Aug. 4 with a teenage girl from Mahomet whom he knew through family friends.

URBANA — A man burning brush near his home was temporarily displaced Thursday night when the fire accidentally spread to his house.

Area firefighters were called to the single story home in the 100 block of Scottswood Drive in Urbana about 9 p.m.

Champaign parolee charged with having heroin for sale

URBANA — A Champaign man currently on parole was charged Wednesday with allegedly possessing heroin he intended to sell.

Judge John Kennedy told Demerio Hilson, 32, of the 1400 block of Queens Way that he could face up to six to 30 years in prison if convicted of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

URBANA — A former University of Illinois student who was suicidal and wanted police to shoot him — which they did — has been sentenced to two years of second-chance probation.

Samuel Applebaum, 24, pleaded guilty Wednesday to disorderly conduct before Judge Roger Webber.

Champaign man accused of having gun, ammunition, drugs in car

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly possessed a weapon, ammunition and drugs has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal.

Kewon Bonner, 23, of the 4800 block of West Windsor Road was also charged Tuesday with unlawful use of weapons by a felon and possession of a controlled substance. The charges stem from his arrest Monday night by Champaign police.

Contractor accused of selling ejection seats from plane he was dismantling

URBANA — A contractor who had the job of dismantling vintage aircraft on the former Chanute Air Force Base has been charged with money laundering and theft after he allegedly sold two ejection seats out of a jet he was taking apart.

Kenneth "Ken" Morrison, 68, of Whiting, Ind., made his first court appearance on the Class 2 felony charges Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court.
