Honored in stone: Judge Shonkwiler 'gave so much to the community'

MONTICELLO — One of Piatt County's most revered jurists will be fondly remembered Saturday when a stone monument with his picture on it is dedicated outside the courthouse where he worked for decades.

John P. Shonkwiler died in July 2012 at the age of 79, sharp to the end as he advised a Supreme Court justice on who should replace him.

URBANA — Champaign County's top prosecutor has filed adult charges against two teens in connection with a shooting that they were allegedly involved in last month that left two men injured.
