Flash flood watch issued

A flash flood watch is in effect for a portion of East Central Illinois through late Tuesday night.

The watch covers DeWitt, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, and Shelby counties.

Additional heavy rainfall is possible through tonight on ground that is nearly saturated in some places. A couple of inches of rain or more is possible.

Urbana police probing weekend shooting

URBANA — Police are investigating the shooting of a 23-year-old man over the weekend.

Lt. Rich Surles said officers were called to Carle Foundation Hospital around 3:40 a.m. Sunday for an Urbana man who had a gunshot wound to his right upper arm. Surles said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Fire destroys pole barn near Rantoul; no one injured

RANTOUL — A metal pole barn was destroyed by a fire Thursday morning just a few miles west of the village. No one was hurt.

Sangamon Valley Fire Protection District Chief Eric Stalter said firefighters were called to the area of county roads 1200 E and 2951 N west of Rantoul around 3:40 a.m.

UPDATE: Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by train in Champaign

UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.

CHAMPAIGN — Police say a man hit by a train Thursday in the southern part of the city is expected to recover.

Deputy Chief Dave Shaffer said officers were called to the area of Buena Vista Drive and Neil Street shortly after 9 a.m. Although the incident remains under investigation, he said police don't believe this was an accident.

The National Weather Service says a portion of East Central Illinois is under a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. Thursday.

The advisory includes Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, and Vermilion counties.

The weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for East Central Illinois until 8 p.m. Tuesday. You should monitor the conditions and be prepared to take shelter.

UPDATE: Illini Union basement reopens after fire at Einstein Bros. Bagels

UPDATE, 10:55 a.m.:

URBANA — An Urbana fire official said the cause of af fire Thursday morning in the basement of the Illini Union is undetermined.

Chief Fire Investigator Jeremy Leevey said crews were called to Einstein Bros. Bagels at 6:16 a.m.

Wind advisory for Ford and Iroquois counties

A wind advisory will be in effect for Ford and Iroquois Counties from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday.

The National Weather Service says that winds could gust up to 45 miles per hour, which will make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

None injured in fire at Hoopeston's BZZZ's Place

A bar in Hoopeston was heavily damaged by a fire early Sunday morning.

Hoopeston firefighters found thick smoke rolling from the front of the building at BZZZ's Place at 306 E. Main St. when they arrived shortly after 1:30 a.m.
