The National Weather Service says that Coles, Edgar and Vermilion counties are under a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Champaign man arrested for DUI after I-74 crash injures three

A Champaign man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol following a crash on Interstate 74 Friday morning that sent three people to the hospital.

State police said that David Love, 33, was traveling west on I-74 near mile marker 191 around 3:20 a.m. just west of the St. Joseph exit.

Calling it too appealing an opportunity to pass up, four-term city head and lifelong Danville resident Scott Eisenhauer is pursuing the six-figure village administrator vacancy in Rantoul.

UI police stepping up efforts to combat bike thefts on campus

CHAMPAIGN — A University of Illinois police effort to track stolen bicycles on campus has returned encouraging results, according to police Chief Craig Stone.

Stone talked about the program as classes got underway for the fall 2018 semester, leading to an influx of bikes around campus.

Traffic alert: Oversized loads to use U.S. 150 between Urbana, Oakwood

Illinois State Police said today that several oversized loads will travel eastbound on U.S. 150 between Urbana and Oakwood starting around 12:30 p.m.

Construction on Interstate 74 necessitated the move, state police said.

Three separate, consecutive trips are planned this afternoon. Expect delays, state police said.


UPDATE: A Life Remembered | Crash victim recalled as 'best friend to everybody'

New 2:20 p.m. Friday:

Illinois State Police have released the name of the pedestrian who ran out in front of a pickup truck south of Danville this week, leading to an accident that killed a man on a motorcycle.

Police said 60 year-old Hildrus Hancock ran in front of the truck on Route One at Greenwood Avenue on Wednesday, causing the driver to slam on the brakes.

UPDATE: I-57 closings caused by semis that rolled over, jackknifed

UPDATE, 4:50 p.m. Tuesday:

PESOTUM — Two separate accidents involving truck drivers who lost control of their rigs Tuesday morning on Interstate 57 shut down the southbound lanes in Coles County and the northbound lanes in Champaign County. No one was injured.

Champaign council to vote on first step for 2019 construction projects

CHAMPAIGN — The city council is set to vote Tuesday on taking the first steps on construction projects scheduled for next year, including replacing bricks in a downtown plaza, filling in gaps in a sidewalk in the city's northwest, repairing a bridge in the city's south and fixing two railroad crossings.

UPDATED: Pesotum firefighter killed in Interstate 74 crash

Update 8:59 p.m. Wednesday:

The victim, Charles McCrone, was a Pesotum fire captain, according to the Northern Piatt Fire Protection District, which responded to the accident.

Dense fog advisory expires

A dense fog advisory is in effect for a portion of East Central Illinois Wednesday morning.

The advisory includes Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, Shelby and Vermilion counties. It is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Visibility is at one quarter of a mile or less at times. Be sure to use your headlights as drive this morning and slow down.
