Danville police said witnesses saw a Champaign man running toward the railroad tracks just before he was hit by a train and killed on Thursday night.

Danville man facing charges in crash that injured Champaign motorcyclist

A Danville man is due back in court next month in connection to an alleged DUI accident in Macon County that injured a Champaign man on a motorcycle.

Forty-six year-old Donald Roberson Sr. is facing three counts of aggravated DUI and one count each of aggravated reckless driving and driving with a revoked license. He is due back in court on Aug. 8.

Illini draw Gonzaga in Maui Invitational opener

The Illinois men's basketball team will open November's Maui Invitational against the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Pilot unhurt after forced landing of crop duster in Piatt County field

MANSFIELD — The Piatt County Sheriff’s Office said a pilot was not injured when his small plane had a forced landing in a field Sunday.

The sheriff’s office said emergency crews were called about 7 p.m. Sunday to a field about 3 miles west of Mansfield and south of U.S. 150.

Felony DUI charges filed in weekend fatal crash in Mahomet

URBANA — A Mahomet man is facing DUI charges in connection with a weekend crash that claimed the life of his passenger.

On Monday, prosecutors filed two counts of aggravated driving under the influence against Chad Smith, 27. He was initially ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol following the single-vehicle accident around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

Fire displaces residents of Champaign mobile home; no one hurt

UPDATE, noon:

CHAMPAIGN — Two residents of a southwest Champaign mobile home have been displaced after an early-morning fire there Thursday.

Champaign Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Smith said firefighters were called to the New Century Estates Mobile Home Park, 4809 W. Windsor Road, about 3:45 a.m.

Champaign County Zoning Board recommends approval of solar farm rules

The Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals has recommended approval of the rules for solar farms in the rural part of the county.

Director of Planning and Zoning for the county John Hall says that the board Thursday night voted 4-2, with Marilyn Lee and Jim Randol voting no. The rules will now go before the Environment and Land Use Committee next Thursday night.

Monticello man dies in dump truck accident

CERRO GORDO — A Monticello man was one of two victims killed in an accident Monday involving two dump trucks in western Piatt County.

Piatt County Coroner Troy Dunn said Kenneth Allen, 65, of Monticello, died in the crash about 5:20 p.m. Monday on Illinois Route 105 at Northeast County Line Road, which is the Macon-Piatt county line.
