UPDATED: Power mostly restored

Monday 10:40 a.m. Update.

Power has been restored to most of the thousands of Ameren customers in Champaign County, who lost electricity earlier Monday morning.

The Ameren outage map showed that there were, at one time, nearly 1,700 without electricity in Tolono. About 300 hundred customers in Pesotum and about 230 in Sadorus were also without power.

UPDATE: Freeze warning issued for East Central Illinois

All of East Central Illinois is now under a freeze warning for the overnight hours Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Frost advisory issued for for 1 a.m. Friday

A Frost Advisory has been issued for a portion of East Central Illinois.

The advisory includes Champaign, DeWitt, Piatt, and Vermilion counties from 1 to 8 a.m. Friday, while Ford and Iroquois counties are under one from 1 to 9 a.m. Friday.

Sensitive outdoor plants and vegetation may be damaged or killed if left uncovered or not brought indoors.

Severe thunderstorm warning expires

The National Weather Service says northeastern Champaign County and northern Vermilion County are under a severe thunderstorm warning until Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

There are 60 mile per hour wind gusts and quarter size hail associated with this storm.

10 years for Champaign man who stole from burned-out building

URBANA — A Champaign man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing from an apartment building that was destroyed by a fire earlier this year.

Jamel Kirkwood, 26, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of residential burglary for stealing from the building at 609 S. Randolph St. The building was boarded up after an April 27 fire made the structure unliveable.

Fire destroys vacant home in north Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — A Thursday morning fire destroyed a vacant house in north Champaign, according to an Eastern Prairie Fire Protection District official.

Fire crews were called to 2306 Welland Drive at about 4:50 a.m., where a ranch-style home was on fire, Capt. John Bell said.

UPDATE: Rantoul woman dies in crash on U.S. 45 north of Urbana

URBANA — A Rantoul woman was killed in a crash early Thursday on U.S. 45 just north of Urbana.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Shana Outlaw, 23, was pronounced dead at 6:40 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital, a victim of multiple traumatic injuries.

No autopsy will be performed, Northrup said.

The National Weather Service says that Coles, Edgar and Vermilion counties are under a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Champaign man arrested for DUI after I-74 crash injures three

A Champaign man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol following a crash on Interstate 74 Friday morning that sent three people to the hospital.

State police said that David Love, 33, was traveling west on I-74 near mile marker 191 around 3:20 a.m. just west of the St. Joseph exit.

UPDATED: Danville mayor a finalist for Rantoul administrator

DANVILLE — The city may be in the market for a new mayor months before election day.

Calling it too appealing an opportunity to pass up, four-term city head and lifelong Danville resident Scott Eisenhauer is pursuing the six-figure village administrator vacancy in Rantoul.
