CHAMPAIGN -- There didn't seem to be much concern when Mike Dudek left Illinois' season opener on Saturday late in the Illini's victory. He was still on the sideline, so many assumed it was more precautionary or at worst a minor injury. After all, how could a guy who had already missed 2 1/2 seasons by three different injuries suffer such an injustice again?

CHAMPAIGN — When it comes to retirement, the chief concern of Happy and Dianne Leman isn't their bank account. It's what God wants.

"We're not actually sure God believes in retirement," Dianne said with a chuckle.

UPDATE: Minor damage after Campustown dumpster fire spreads to building

CHAMPAIGN — A dumpster fire Monday at a Campustown apartment building caused some minor damage to the structure but resulted in no injuries.

Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Smith said crews were called to 1007 Locust St. shortly after noon. He said the flames damaged some vinyl siding on the outside of the building, but there's no fire damage inside.

Cities sticking to yard-waste schedule, even if leaves aren't

Typically, by now, there are more leaves on the ground than in the trees.

This fall, not so much.

"We're later by about a week in terms of the color change and retention," said Carol Augspurger, a University of Illinois professor of plant biology and chair of the Urbana tree commission.

Rauner talking to 'superstar' candidates for UI Board of Trustees

Gov. Bruce Rauner says there is potential for "superstar" talent to join the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

The Republican governor is tasked with filling the seats for three trustee terms that expired this month. Rauner said he is interviewing a number of high-caliber candidates.

Chief Justice wants to see high court at UI

CHAMPAIGN -- If Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita Garman has her way, proceedings for the state's highest court could happen on the University of Illinois' campus.

The Danville native has taken the Supreme Court's proceedings on the road throughout the state, something she hopes continues after her term as Chief Justice ends next month.
