Judges lose Champaign County but keep seats thanks to rest of circuit

URBANA — The two races to replace retired judges in the Sixth Judicial Circuit were a study of contrasts, with both Democratic candidates winning handily in Champaign County and both incumbent Republicans dominating in the circuit's five other counties: DeWitt, Douglas, Moultrie, Macon and Piatt.

CHAMPAIGN — When Champaign County NAACP President Minnie Pearson was teaching about family life at a school, she found one of her students deeply troubled and defensive.

Police investigating Sunday-morning armed robbery in Urbana

URBANA — Police are investigating an armed robbery Sunday morning in Urbana.

According to a police report, a 38-year-old Urbana man was in the 1500 block of East Florida Avenue at 7:30 a.m. when two men approached him.

One of the men displayed a handgun, and the two men demanded the victim's wallet.

Champaign man facing weapons charges after traffic stop

URBANA — A Champaign man is facing weapons charges as a result of a traffic stop late Saturday night in west Champaign.

Joseph Rashaad Gordon, 23, who listed addresses in the 2700 block of Sangamon Drive, Champaign, and in Chicago, was charged Monday with felony unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Villa Grove man faces stolen-vehicle charges after chase near Willard Airport

URBANA — A Villa Grove man is facing charges after leading University of Illinois police on a short chase early Friday morning that ended in a muddy field near Willard Airport.

Dane Richard Chandler, 23, was charged Monday with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and two misdemeanors — driving under revocation and fleeing and attempting to elude police.

Champaign man gets 8 years in federal prison on child-porn charges

URBANA — A Champaign man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison following his conviction on child-pornography charges.

On Monday, Chief Judge James E. Shadid sentenced Jaime Breckenridge, 34, who listed an address in the 2200 Block of South First Street, to 96 months in prison. In addition, Breckenridge was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to a victim.

THOMASBORO — A Rantoul woman died following a crash Sunday morning in rural Thomasboro.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said that Kalyn D. Porter, 31, was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. at the scene of a crash at the intersection of County Road 2400 N and 1200 E.
