Three area athletes were recently honored by the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in their respective sports.

On Campus

Eureka College has rebounded from an 0-2 start to win three straight due in part to the contributions of several area players. On defense junior safety Colton Fauver, from Salt Fork, has 13 tackles, an interception and fumble recovery in five starts while senior safety Ross Royal, from GCMS, has 14 tackles and two pass breakups in his five starts.

On Campus

Carthage College is off to a 3-1 start thanks to the efforts of three ex-Urbana Tigers. Senior receiver James Cobb III leads the team with 14 receptions for 238 yards in four starts. His three touchdown receptions ties him for second in the CCIW.

Area college update (May 28): Learnard leads Kankakee

■ The Kankakee Community College softball squad finished the season at 48-13 after placing seventh at the NJCAA Division II national championship tournament. Sophomore Kalyn Learnard, from Salt Fork, led the team with a .483 batting average and 15 stolen bases. Her 12 triples were the most in NJCAA Division II this season.

— The Great Lakes Valley Conference recently named two area athletes to its all-conference baseball teams. Illinois-Springfield junior Cole Taylor, from Salt Fork, was named to the first team, and University of Indianapolis junior Storm Joop, from St. Thomas More, was named to the second team.

On campus: Former Bulldog Young takes meet honor

— Senior Morgan Young, from Mahomet-Seymour, was named the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Female Athlete of the Meet at the conference track and field championships. The Carthage weightperson successfully defended her 2016 titles in both the shot put and discus with throws of 46 feet, 6 inches and 154-4, respectively, as well as placing second in the hammer throw at 170-2.
