Militia mystery: Before arrests, bombing suspects were planning government protest

CLARENCE — Before Michael B. Hari's arrest Tuesday on federal charges in connection with a bombing in Minnesota and an attempted bombing in Champaign, his anti-government militia planned to hold a protest Saturday in Hari's Ford County hometown of Clarence, opposing "the FBI and local law enforcement abuse" of the community's citizens.

Tip leads to 'suspicious object' in Ford County

CLARENCE — Federal and local authorities spent several hours Monday searching a property in Clarence for homemade explosives, and they detonated a few suspicious objects found there.

Former Gilman clerk facing theft charge

The former clerk in the city of Gilman is facing charges alleging she stole thousands of dollars from the city over several years.

Iroquois County Sheriff Derek Hagen said Michelle Fancher turned herself in Thursday.  She was wanted on a warrant charging her with official misconduct and theft.  Fancher bonded out of jail and will appear in court in the near future.

Man accused in Paxton carjackings imprisoned for parole violation

PAXTON — A parolee from Douglas County who is charged with 11 felonies for allegedly trying to hijack multiple vehicles in Paxton last month has been released from the Ford County Jail and put back in state prison for violating his parole.

Two killed in head-on collision on Illinois 9 west of Paxton

PAXTON — State police have identified two people who died when the car they were in struck a semitrailer head-on Thursday in Drummer Township, west of Paxton.

The crash occurred at 10:09 a.m. on Illinois 9 at Ford County Road 1300 East, according to Illinois State Police.
