Decision time: should I paint my hallway light blue or bright white?

Yesterday's weather had me practically jumping for joy.

The sun was shining, the birds were singing - and that weird flower in my front walkway that usually blooms in March showed up early. Plus, the longer sunlight in the evening is just such a relief. I know that winter is far from over, but it's so nice when the weather feels like spring.

I wanted to do something, so I cleared out our hallway, scrubbed down the walls and applied a coat of primer.

I've written before about how music is the key to any home improvement project, but yesterday, I've discovered that audio books are great for this, too.

Blog PhotoI got the walls primed and I am so happy our house is officially is free of the yellow paint the former owner used as a neutral. It took 38 months, but I did it.

Now I have a dilemma - I can't decide to paint the hallway the light bluish-gray of the kitchen, or bright white like the bathroom.

I think the white would be good for making the space seem larger than it is. But I'd also like the hallway to blend into the rest of the living spaces, which are all gray or light blue.

I don't want the white to seem out of place, and I think it might, especially with all the dark woodwork in the space. A friend suggested I paint the trim white, but I'm not ready to take that step yet.

The primer is also an awful lavender color, and I'm thinking the blue might take less paint to cover it. There's no way to be sure of that, though.

Anyone have a vote on this? I'm leaning more toward blue than white, but I'm open to suggestions.

The photo above is a before of our hallway. I usually forget to take one, so I'm glad I didn't this time.

Get a white paint with blue tones - you'll get the best of both colors. I still recommend you using a soft gloss or enamel paint.  Not only will it reflect light better than flat paint, but it will be easier to wash off any marks or smudges that might occur in a small entryway.

Yes, I'm with you on the semigloss. And I'm working on finding more mirrors to put in the hallway, as well.

I say go for the color! I think that either would like nice, but that having the related colors would really pull it all together. You could even add a little white to your kitchen color to make it lighter for the hallway.

You know, a couple people suggested that on Facebook, as well. It's a good idea.
