Alex Legion, a highly regarded freshman who is leaving Kentucky, has been given a release from the Wildcats to speak with Illinois.

This morning, Legion was given permission by Kentucky to be contacted by Illinois. That came after a few precarious days when it was uncertain if Kentucky would allow Illinois in the mix for the 6-foot-5 guard. Apparently those concerns were unwarranted, and patience paid off.
Notre Dame previously had been the only school given permission by Kentucky to contact Legion, the Detroit News reported Wednesday night.
There are several ties between Legion and Illinois. Bruce Weber recruited Legion out of Detroit Country Day, mainly between his sophomore and junior years. Newly hired assistant coach Jerrance Howard, who came from Kentucky, had a close relationship with Legion over the summer.

Hey Paul,
Skipping ahead a few steps to pose this question.... in the chance that we get this guy, when would he be eligible to suit up for the Illini?

would taking Legion put the verbal commit of any currently committed recruit in jeopardy?

Legion would be eligible to suit up in Jan. '09 if he is enrolled in Jan. '08 and I cannot see why signing Legion would effect any recruits verbal. All of our verbals are solid.
