Bertrand questionable for exhibition opener

Freshman Joseph Bertrand has some swelling in his right knee and sat out today's practice at Ubben. He's considered questionable for Friday's exhibition game against Missouri Southern. You'll remember Bertrand underwent surgery on the knee in September.
Earlier today, before Bertrand sat out practice, Bruce Weber indicated there's still a possibility the Sterling product might redshirt.
"We'll just have to see how he progresses over the next couple of weeks and then make a decision," Weber said. "I know he does not want to redshirt. Most kids don't."
Bertrand can play in the two exhibition games and still have the option of a redshirt. Without the knee injury, I don't think a redshirt would be a possibility for Bertrand. He's been effective, at times, when the knee isn't bothering him.
"That's why I tried to give him a little vote of confidence: ‘You're fine, we're happy with you,'" Weber said. "We think he has a good future with us."
