They really did win

I know I have not kept up with this blog lately. As Billy Packer would say, "I've been laxadaisical." But I have been other occupied. Really. So busy, in fact, that I was unable to see even one minute of last Saturday's Thriller in the Chiller, otherwise known as the Allstate Arena.

But I got to see it on videotape tonight. It was a nice father-son hour or so (we f-fed through the commercials) with my oldest son, Matt, and we enjoyed the game thoroughly.

I am happy to report that Ilinois really did win, although no one yet has been able to explain how it happened so quickly, as if on cat's paws in the darkest hours.

I'll be posting again soon. For Wednesday's column in The N-G I'm writing about -- no, not about basketball -- but campaign contributions by members of the UI Board of Trustees. I've found what I think is some interesting stuff.

Anyway, enjoy this next week. This is, indeed, the most wonderful time of the year: the beginning of spring, the end of college hoops and the start of the baseball season.
