Here's an idea that Nancy Cantor should have tried in her brief time at the University of Illinois:
We Catholics are supposed to do this pretty regularly. It's called reconciliation. In the old days it was called confession. As you can imagine, the practice has had mixed results over the years. Some people continue to sin anyway.
But I've never seen it attempted at an institution of higher education. I presume it was a worthwhile exercise and that Syracuse University and the Syracuse community are now much better places because of it. Too bad we didn't try it at the Urbana campus. Perhaps the idea could have spread to the UI board of trustees, the Legislature, the governor's office, Chicago City Hall, etc. What a better world this would be!! :)
Thanks to Steve for letting me know about this Syracuse U. Website. I feel better already.
