Just as the White Sox seem ready to wrap their grimy fingers around their first World Championship since the days before radio and hard roads in Champaign County, this story http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/mag/article.pl?article_id=24687&post_date=2005-10-22&rel=1 pops up.
I love it. If the Cubs can't make noise in October, maybe they can make some news.
I doubt the Tribune Co. would unload the Cubs. The Cubs still mean money and programming and ratings and prestige for Tribune. If they really wanted to unload a bad investment, they'd bail out on their partnership with the WB television network.
But it's fun to imagine what another owner could do with the Cubs, one that looked at the team as something other than an infotainment profit center.
