Progress on the Assembly Hall, 50 years ago

The News-Gazette said on this date in 1960 that officials said the modern, multipurpose Assembly Hall now under constriction south of Memorial Stadium would be completed in time for the 1962 Illinois High School basketball tournament.
Also, this weekend’s tournament at Huff Gym is assured of a southern Illinois finalist, as Bridgeport downed Ottawa and West Frankfort defeated Galesburg in opening round games.
Alas, the tournament champ ended up being Chicago Marshall and the Assembly Hall didn't host its first basketball game until March 1963.
