This afternoon's scheduled hearing on the state's tentative decision to switch state employees' and retirees' health insurance from Urbana-based Health Alliance has been moved from the Stratton Building in Springfield to a larger hearing room in the Capitol.
The hearing, which will be part of a regular meeting of the House Higher Education Committee, will be at 4 p.m. in room 114 of the Staterhouse.
Rep. Naomi Jakobsson, D-Urbana, who called for the special hearing, said she expects a larger crowd with testimony from affected citizerns from all over the state. She said she expects the session to take "a couple hours."
Jakobsson said she "reached out" to the Quinn administration to have an administration representative at the hearing, and that "I think we were expecting at least one person there," but added that the Quinn official may also be required at another committee hearing at the same time.
"I'd like to get some questions answered," Jakobsson said. "But if they're not there at least we'll have all the questions (about the move away from Health Alliance) recorded and we'll be able to submit them."
